Launch Survey Shows Light Turnout

Now the Worthington Together launch survey deadline has past, I half wonder why the submission deadline was extended from July 31 to August 15. Read my other article to learn more about how we got to this point; the pre-baked plan to change Worthington’s zoning from a common sense zoning map to a no-limits developer free for all map.

The estimated numbers reported at the Worthington Together committee meeting showed low turnout for the surveys.
Â
Approximately 205 attendees were at the Launch in June, and 40 attended the Launch Webinar. Approximately 450 surveys were submitted online.
Â
In a city of 15,000 residents, getting 700 participants is pretty low. Even with the deadline extension, let’s assume an additional 300 surveys are submitted for a total of 1,000 participants. That’s still lower than some of the community surveys that have been promoted by local citizen groups the past five to 10 years.
Â
This is alarming to me considering this survey is going to be a major baseline for the biggest rewrite of the city’s planning document in the past 20+ years.
